How to: Christian fish ornaments

STEP 1: Gather what you need:

Acrylic paint (your choice in color just make sure black writing will show up on it.)
Ribbon (fabric or plastic)
Black Paint Pen (probably at your craft store)
Quick air dry clay
(My clay is not quick air dry clay so mine took awhile to dry. A couple hours. But if you stick to quick air dry clay your good. I got mine at Hobby Lobby but you can get it at your local craft store too!)
Paint Pallet, container, or bowl to hold the paint.
A ruler
Tape
A drinking straw. (the kind you get at the gas station.)
Freezer paper
Scissors

STEP 2 : Shaping:

1. Take a hunk out of your clay, as big as in the picture.Make sure you shut the lid so the clay does not dry out. Roll it into a snake like shape. (we all know what that is from playing with play-dough!). Measure it with your ruler. It should be 8' 1/2 in. If its not, that is completely fine. That's just the length I prefer.

2.  Then bring it over like in the pic and press down slightly with your pointy finger. Make sure that the ornament touches the table when you look at it sideways.

3 Now take your straw and barely roll it along the top. This will not make dents but it should smooth it out a little. Make sure you do it very gently and don't press down. Smooth out your finger prints.

STEP 3: Making a hole

1. make a hole by holding the straw vertical, and press down through the clay till you feel the table. Slowly turn.
2. Gently lift the straw out, still holding it vertically. You now should have a perfect hole.
3. Make sure your hole is about 1 cementer to the edge so it does not break while hanging on the tree.
4 Dont waste the clay that is in the straw. Simply pinch above the clay and squeeze it out. Just the way you squeeze toothpaste out of the tube. Put the clay in your container of clay to be used later, in other projects.

STEP 4: Drying:
1.Transport your clay ornaments to the frount porch or somewhere safe they can dry. Let dry. This step may take a while. A day at most. Hope you like waiting. ~smile~

STEP 5:Paint pen practice:
1. practice with your paint pen on the not shiny side of freezer paper. Or just card-stock. Don't use normal paper, cause it will leak through and stain your table.

STEP 6: Painting:

 1. Squirt some paint into your palate/container/bowl. Paint your ornaments. A light coat, not thick. Dry. Since we are using acrylic paint, it only needs about 5 minutes to dry. But make sure they are dry, before doing the next step.

STEP 7: Finishing:
1. Using your paint pen, write whatever you like. Let dry. Then write the year on the back of your ornament. Dry. Tie a ribbon through the hole and Ta-Da! its done.

I hope you have enjoyed this How To I have really enjoyed doing it! If you want to do this, it will be easier if you simply pre-read this and then do it. Make sure to follow this tutorial.
Enjoy!
